Octoberâs Instagram takeover!
The photophiles amongst you will probably know we have an Instagram account, used for two things: regramming the best photos of Cardiff that we can find, and also occasionally farming out to Cardiffians for month-long takeovers.
In October, we have photographer Sam Padget doing the takeover. Sam has done some fabulous action-packed photo essays for us before (like this one on the P1 Superstock in the bay). He introduces himself below!

I am a 30 year old freelance photographer and student currently based in Cardiff. My journey to this point has been quite complicated, but I discovered my passion for photography in northern Norway, where I lived for a year. Having held photo workshops, an exhibition and publishing a book, I headed back down south to broaden my photographic skill set with a BA in Photojournalism at the University of South Wales.
For me, Cardiff is the perfect city. It has it all, a combination of a strong photography scene, bustling night life and is ideally placed in proximity to nature and of course, the sea.
My day job, so to speak, is freelance sports photography with particular focus on unusual and winter sports, but Iâm pursuing a career in documentary photography with strong interest in the co-existence of man and nature. This month you can expect a lot of street style photography, as well as candid portraiture. I also like to use techniques such as slow shutter and elevation to try and give a unique âlookâ to my images.
My main interest is travel and Iâm a bit of a foodie with a penchant for noodles. Iâm fluent in Norwegian and currently learning Portuguese.

Two more weeks in Cardiff – photography by Rhian Richards and a new photographer for April!
And thus tomorrow begins April, and thus our Instagram photography project is handed over from Rhian Richards to our next Cardiff resident, Elizabeth Watt!
Many thanks to Rhian for doing such a tip top job in March. She has put up some gorgeous snaps of the city over the past two weeks – have a look at the places she went …
See more of Rhianâs photography out and about in Cardiff here: Two weeks in Cardiff – street photography by Rhian Richards.
Over the next month, Elizabeth Watt will be taking over the lens, so keep an eye on it …. We Are Cardiff Instagram! Sheâs written us a short biography of herself:
Libby is a 23 year old broadcasting production assistant, still kicking around Cardiff after moving in September â09 for Uni. Five years, one Documentary Film & TV degree and several broken bones later, sheâs played the Cardiff scene from student hood through to being a young professional.
One of her favourite city pastimes is spotting those embarking on ‘the walk of shameâ, talking to the swans by Roath Lake and visiting independent cafes and bars. The city would be perfect, if it werenât for the occasional pothole- which always conveniently appear when daring to wear heels, or running.
Determined to work through her ‘Cardiff Bucket Listâ- feel free to recommend places and things to do in Cardiff, @ElizabethMWatt!
Two weeks in Cardiff – street photography by Rhian Richards
For the past two weeks the We Are Cardiff Instagram account has been in the hands of resident, Rhian Richards! Letâs see what sheâs been up to, shall we?
Do you recognise where any of the below were taken…?
Did you spot any key locations?

Happy St Davidâs Day!
Donât forget that today is the first day of our @wearecardiff Instagram Project – where the Instagram account is handed over to a Cardiffian for a month. You can spend March in the company of Rhian Richards – enjoy!
The We Are Cardiff Instagram Project: March – Rhian Richards
Oh howdy there, good people. I bring you joyeous and exciting tidings of our We Are Cardiff Instagram Project! I set up a We Are Cardiff @wearecardiff Instagram account a couple of weeks ago, with the intention of passing it around to different people in the city for a month at time, to get a Cardiffianâs-eye view of happenings in different places.
The first couple of weeks were me, in and around Cardiff Bay. But Iâm very happy to announce that the first month – the month of MARCH 2014 – will be attacked by Rhian Richards! Rhian is normally on Instagram on @rhirhigabor, but has agreed to take on March for We Are Cardiff. Hereâs a little bit about Rhian. Enjoy! Helia x
I moved to Cardiff in May 2013 but have lived here before between 1998 and 2003. Itâs changed a lot since those days!
On weekends I like watching films, meeting up with friends, cooking, going for walks and taking photos.
I have an obsession with castles and places of historical interest so I love exploring them and taking pictures so my favourite Cardiff haunts so far are Castell Coch, Cardiff Castle and Sain Ffagan.
I also love nice restaurants and bars. Among my favourites are The Potted Pig, The Cosy Club, Bills and Mezza Luna. Nom!
On a Wednesday night you can usually catch me in line at The Odeon Cinema in the Red Dragon Centre waiting to geek out with a good film.
I also enjoy horse riding and get back in the saddle whenever I can. I go to Cardiff Riding School in Pontcanna Fields.
